Addressing the Climate Crisis

“Intentional, effective climate policy is crucial for the future of Nebraska’s young people, as human-induced climate change threatens our health, economy, food supply, and infrastructure” - Owen Fuessel

Carryover Bills

Bills impacting Nebraska’s climate crisis are included in this section. Our elected officials may not feel the ramifications of their inaction within their lifetime, but young Nebraskans are likely to be impacted. We support legislative action that supports the health of our planet.

  • Agriculture Committee | Ibach

This bill would require the Department of Natural Resources to apply for a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund, which diverts money from its original purpose.

A more reliable funding strategy is important. We shouldn’t compromise funding for other critical environmental efforts.

NEw Voices supports the intent of LB638 but believes this funding provision is inadequate to fulfill the program needs.

  • Natural Resources Committee | Spivey

This bill would create the Office of Climate Action within Nebraska’s Department of Environment and Energy to coordinate climate action initiatives across the state and create an annual report on progress, funding, and recommendations for climate action.

NEw Voices strongly supports LB163 and the creation of an office focused on climate action. As a state, we must do more to address our climate crisis.
