Making Healthcare More Accessible

NEw Voices is focused on passing legislation that makes it easier for young people to access the care they need.

Bills related to healthcare as it impacts young Nebraskans are included in this section. NEw Voices believes elected officials should introduce legislation that makes healthcare more accessible for young Nebraskans.

Carryover Bills

  • Health & Human Services Committee | Hunt

This bill would prohibit health care professionals from administering conversion therapy to anyone under 19.

LB367 is currently sitting in committee.

NEw Voices strongly supports LB367. Young Nebraskans should be allowed to live as their authentic selves without adults harming them with debunked “care.”

  • General File | Holdcroft

This bill would increase the barriers to medication abortion for pregnant Nebraskans using additional in-person screenings and follow-up appointments.

NEw Voices is opposed to bills that increase barriers to care. Care is hard enough to access for Nebraskans without the addition of appointments that are not always necessary.

  • Judiciary Committee | Hunt

Nebraska is the only state where 18-year-olds still need their parent to consent for them when receiving medical treatment. This creates additional barriers to young Nebraskans being able to access care.

NEw Voices strongly supports allowing 18-year-olds to consent to their own medical treatment.

  • Judiciary Committee | Juarez

NEw Voices strongly supports this bill, which would allow 18-year-olds, pregnant teens, and teen parents to consent to their own medical care without needing a parent or guardian.
