Creating Opportunities for Economic Equity

Carryover Bills

Bills impacting the economic realities of young Nebraskans are included in this section. As our elected officials look to address the brain drain, NEw Voices supports measures beyond property tax reform that make Nebraska an affordable state for young people to live in.

  • Final Reading | Raybould

This bill would create a subminimum wage that would affect workers under the age of 20, despite the fact that many young people are working to support their families or save for their education.

NEw Voices believes young Nebraskans deserve to make the same amount of money if performing the same job as their older peer. LB258 does NOT support our goal of keeping young talent in Nebraska.

  • Health & Human Services Committee | M. Cavanaugh

This bill would include all at-risk routh who meet the eligibility criteria for the Bridge of Independence Program regardless of immigration status.

We should be doing all that we can to support young Nebraskans in their pursuit of entering independence.

    NEw Voices firmly supports LB181.

  • Revenue Committee | Conrad

This bill would subtract tipped wages from the federal adjusted gross income of individuals for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2025.

We know that there are plenty of young people who earn tips. NEw Voices is in support of subtracting that wage from adjusted gross income.

  • Business and Labor Committee | Sorrentino

NEw Voices supports this bill, which would strengthen protections for young Nebraskans by clarifying child labor requirements.

  • Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee | Jacobson

NEw Voices opposes this bill, which would shift costs onto the consumer by allowing retailers to round instead of giving exact change.

  • Revenue Committee | Prokop and J. Cavanaugh

NEw Voices supports these two bills, which would provide for a sales tax exemption for school supplies during back-to-school shopping season.
